The one reliable and predictable fishery has been kingfish, in metro bays and harbours. They have basically been on tap. But – it’s hard to find keepers.

We ran a live slimy mackerel off the downrigger. Maneuvering the big boat around the moorings in a nasty cross wind wasn’t easy. But James handled it like the champ he is. A few passes and BANG.

Bass Kingfish and Salmon
We started out with the 10 gram jigs. But hooked fish boatside coughed up bait a little shorter and slimmer than even the tiny 10 gram jigs. It was time to break out the secret weapon
Big Bubbles No Troubles
Cast your float and fly *ahead* of the leading edge of the school. These fish seem to have a pretty narrow field of vision. The big buzz comes when you see them spot the fly, turn, and suck it down.
Spring Time is King Time
The plan was, downrigging. I didn’t have much intel to go on! Excepting a short video from the Drone Shark app Facebook page showing a school of kings swimming off Bondi Beach
Skipjack Attack
Can’t recommend chasing these pelagic on light gear too highly! No big gear or long runs to the Shelf needed.
Kingfish and Chill
We had a ball on Sunday, even though we didn’t find the big ones we wanted. Quite sure that will happen soon.
Bustups and Baitballs
Luckily the salmon have arrived in Sydney Harbour. Meaning that if it got too windy to head offshore, we had a good backup option:
