Smooth Drag For Your Reels

Sydney, Australia. Where I live. Six out of the last seven weekends, howling winds and driving rain! Meaning not many anglers getting out on the water. They’re staying at home prepping their tackle, which is why we’re getting so many orders for carbontex drag washers at the moment:

So what is carbontex? Simply the best drag washer you can get. Super tough carbon fibre that goes in between the stainless steel washers in your reel. Way better than most factory drags:

Last October I hooked a big cobia on 10 kilo line and one of our 100 gram jigs at Fraser Island. The fight felt like I’d tied my line onto the towbar of a car. Here's a pic of our plotter screen at the time:

After 45 minutes a shark bit him in half, and we managed to gaff the front part of the fish – which weighed 35 kilos:

Thankfully my 4000 size reel had a carbontex drag upgrade, or he would have busted me off for sure. The reel got pretty hot during the fight but the drags stayed smooth and strong. Here's a pic of before and after on a typical small overhead reel. The improvement's pretty obvious:

The upgrade is super easy to do. All you need is an old pair of braid scissors and a power drill:

And it's not expensive. Just Australian $29, for a sheet that can do up to six or seven reels - including delivery anywhere in the world:
