Downrigging Cobia
Regular readers of this little newsletter know of my fascination for cobia:
Got the big boy above at Hervey Bay when, after a massive battle, a shark bit its tail off. Thank you, sharky! Took a pic of the plotter track after the fight, pretty crazy:
Last year I hooked one just as big at Cooktown – using way too light tackle. First, two teeth sheared off the reel drag. Then, the rod broke. Lastly, the 15 kilo braid parted. All my fault, not the gear. Small or big, they give a huge battle:
All these memories came flooding back this week, when a message arrived from Justin on the NSW North Coast:
