Recent obsession, the beautiful Colo River on the eastern side of the Blue Mountains. Drax and I have been chasing bass, mullet, and big carp. Boat of choice has been a little True Kit inflatable, bought from New Zealand. Can't recommend them too highly:

Powered by a little electric outboard, or better a Yamaha 8HP. Super shallow river so everything revolves around the tide. We fish for bass on the way up, then stop at a convenient sandbar and fish for carp using corn for bait. Some mighty battles on our 602 light combo:

The carp are a good size:

Noticed schools of freshwater mullet attracted by our burley. Remembered this unusual mullet rig, which I'm told on Facebook was made by a bloke on the Central Coast. You pack the coil with fresh bread, and put small bread pieces on the hooks:

That worked well:

But the primary target was carp. Yes they're a pest but the big ones are strong fighters, and give a huge battle on the light gear we use:

Our 602 combo. Rod, reel, your choice of 6 or 12 pound colour change braid, leader connected with FG knot, $145 including delivery:

How can we do it so cheap? Because the 2-piece six foot rod is just short enough to be sent by mail. That’s a big saving. Good for bass, trout, bream, blackfish, flathead – and dirty great carp. Check it out here:
Want just the reel? Still have a few left after our Christmas special. Two 3000 size reels for $75 including delivery. Here's Jan catching his first ever Aussie fish (a bonito) using one, last Friday:

We caught 6 bonnies to use as bait for a bull shark session later this week. hoping to report on how that goes next week. Thanks for reading
