Korona Kingies

April 09, 2020

Out last week in the 6.4m centre console and running 14 miles offshore to a set of private FADs. On the way out the Mercury 150HP missed a couple of times. Couldn’t remember when my last service was because it goes in regularly for various jobs and I have a Mercury on the 4.2m centre console too. Called up Shannon the service guy only to find the motor’s done 400 hours since its last service in February 2019! Booked in for late next week but since that development I’m restricted to the smaller boat only and close in fishing around the Harbour. Very grateful I can get on the water at all, considering the challenges we’re facing. Here's a video:

Thankfully our readers have been getting out there into them. Slow jigging expert Chris Chan had a fantastic day off Sydney:

Kingie action was on and off. LJ didn't take our jigs so i dropped 2 live squids but all cleaned in couple second.

Then I kept working on jigging then hooked up 92cm on 110g with 25lb main 30lb leader at 12 mile.

Moved to the Peak then instead hooked up 83cm fat kingie (maybe we drove the boat away from the reef and the kingie drank lot of water) busted off couple time as well. The last busted off due by cruise ship was moving toward to us so we drove the boat further out but lost the kingie. Back to the foreshore road ramp. Flushed the motor and the police locked down the ramp. I think this is the last fishing trip in NSW lockdown

Good on you Chris and very grateful for your pics and report. Brad from Sea Lord Howe Charters is locked down on the island with no tourists allowed. He’s making the best of it:

Hey Andy,
Another great day out today with your jigs!
With the island locked down we have now been fishing for the locals and selling direct to them!
After a 6am departure this morning we were home and hosed by 10 with over 80kg of king's!
Great times with most fish around the 80cm mark and a couple of bigger ones thrown in.

Here’s the jigs doing all the damage over there. Note that when our stock runs out we will have to put the price up? Unfortunately the Australian dollar has fallen considerably since the last shipment of these arrived. With jigging season cranking up in a month or so they’d be a good investment:

Dave fishing the NSW South Coast and super pleased with his new boat:

Hi Andrew, hope you are well. I did a quick trip out from Greenwell Point last Tuesday. A couple other boats out also but the fishing was hard work with not many being boated. Little to no current. Managed a couple of tasty little Sambos on one of your jigs, also got one (just undersized) King on a live yakka.

Found nothing at the FAD and a plague of Barracuda out on the deport reefs. Super stoked with how the new boat handles the rough stuff. Cheers Dave

Excellent. Great to hear from Kiwi client Liam in the South Island too. He’s been getting blistering results from his new downrigger:

ive used it mainly on the west coast of nz to troll live baits for kingfish.

But its also been used to pull dredges while trolling for marlin and tuna. I also managed 2 big snapper when pulling yakkas very close to the bottom.

That's a great result. I should take this opportunity to let the two dozen fishos waiting for their downrigger back order know that the ship is in botany Port as of 7th April. We will take delivery hopefully on Tuesday after Easter and send them out as fast as we can. Readers considering a downrigger can check them out here:

Thanks for reading and best of luck if you’re able to get out on the water over Easter
