Downriggers Are Deadly

November 23, 2020

Big feedback from downrigger owners this week now that the seas – and the fish – are warming up. Simon from Evans Head orders a second downrigger and sends a fantastic pic:

Michael Weynton from Newport out on Saturday 21st November and putting his brand new downrigger to the test. November and December always the prime time for downrigging off Sydney because the big kings are riding the currents south:

First run of the new downrigger today, we braved the southerly and hooked on to this specimen! Caught in shallow water, we initially thought we had snagged. Unfortunately I was more concerned about snagging the bomb and my mate beat me to the reel. Still super stoked. 105cm

I’m going on the record to predict this summer will be huge, for downrigging. Three reasons:
There are already stacks of fish around.
Spotted Mackerel at Evans Head already;
Kingfish everywhere in Sydney Harbour
2 x 90cm kings caught off the boardwalk near Luna Park last week;
Million Dollar Kingfish Challenge coming up:

Downrigging is deadly on five of the most popular fish species. Snapper:

Dolphin Fish:

Mackerel:

Billfish:

And of course, kingfish:

Yep, downriggers are deadly and we have the best model for Australian conditions. Ours goes straight into your rod holder:

It has a long tilting boom arm which locks in the up or down position. And, a rod holder adjustable for angle:

You can rotate the downrigger on its base so it points to either side of your boat:

It’s made strong from solid aluminium – not hollow tube – and heavily anodised, to protect against corrosion:

It’s supplied complete with everything you need –
Rod holder base
60 metres 200-pound colour change braid (no hum from braided wire cable)
4 Du Bro adjustable release clips
Detachable line counter
And weight:

You don’t have to buy a downrigger and then go spend another hundred bucks on accessories. Ours is supplied ready to go. Check out this video showing a typical day downrigging Sydney:
