Anthony bought a downrigger a month ago and called yesterday needing another one - urgently. He made my day, talking about how downrigging around Sydney has opened a whole new fishing world for him and the family. Here’s a nice one from Tuesday this week. 87cm:

Barcrusher Boats using their downrigger to great effect. Getting your live bait down to 15 metres makes all the difference in the size of mahi you'll catch. From their Instagram page:

They’ve had it for a year:

More on our downrigger here:
Don Cummings is a great bloke who I wrote about in the Coffs Harbour mackerel report on March 25th. He saved our bacon when we arrived at the Big 4 Holiday Park in Sawtell – only to be told there was nowhere to park our boat! A desperate call to Don, and he came up with free accommodation. Since we visited he’s bought a beautiful new boat:

And wasted no time in getting out on the water. Starting with a wahoo for first mate Jordon:

And then finding one for himself:

There’s been a good autumn run of these tasty speedsters. Here’s John Borg, posing with his beautiful wahoo at the Harrington cleaning tables:

Sure, I’m biased! But gee our bent butt rods are good. So comfortable - and so much extra leverage, on a good fish:
Don’s second run on the new boat last weekend produced a great result too:

EXCELLENT. Needless to say when I posted the pic of Don’s new boat on the Facebook page:
We discovered some other clients are big fans of Performance Plates too. Here’s John Carter’s new ride:

Needless to say it isn’t always plain sailing with these big beautiful hard tops. Jess Vella writes, on Anzac eve:

Readers on the Facebook page wondered why they didn’t just slide it back into the water. But another client told us that the hull was pinned by a davit, on the pontoon:

Anzac Day and lots of clients fished up the coast, taking advantage of the excellent offshore conditions. Here’s Kayden Dhyon, off South West Rocks:

Thanks so much for your constant support Kayden! So helpful for our readers to have these helpful reports at holiday time. In closing, an interesting blast from the past. On Thursday, I posted a 45 year old story from the much missed Fishing News. Subject, Wally Balzan’s huge kingfish from The Banks, off Greenwell Point:

Soon after, Wal’s son (also named Wally) posted a pic of his father with the actual fish to our Facebook page!

What a fantastic king – especially when caught on a solid glass rod and star drag reel, like we used back then. Thanks for reading and please keep the pics and reports coming in
