Carbontex Drag Washer Sheet

$39.00 Sale

Cut your own replacement fishing reel drag washers from a 100 × 195 mm Carbontex sheet. Sheet stock gives you the flexibility to match the original washers in your reel and cut multiple replacements from a single piece.

  • Sheet size: 100 × 195 mm
  • Thickness options: 0.5 mm and 1.0 mm
  • Premium construction: solid black Carbontex through the thickness, not fibreglass-core sandwich material
  • Quantity: 1 uncut sheet
  • DIY friendly: use the original drag washer as your template
  • Multiple reels: depending on washer size, one sheet can service several reels

Please note: this product is an uncut sheet, not a set of pre-cut washers. Match the thickness of the washer you are replacing and keep the original drag-stack height in mind when selecting a sheet.

Carbontex Sheet for DIY Fishing Reel Drag Washer Upgrades

Worn, compressed or inconsistent drag washers can make an otherwise good fishing reel unpleasant to use. Carbontex sheet lets you make replacement friction washers to the dimensions of your existing drag stack rather than relying on a pre-cut set for a particular reel model.

That makes sheet stock especially useful if you maintain several reels, own an older or less common reel, or simply prefer to cut and fit your own drag washers during a reel service. Remove one of the existing friction washers, use it as the template, and cut the replacement to match.

High-Quality Carbontex Without a Fibreglass Core

Not all carbon drag sheet is constructed the same way. Some sandwich materials use dark outer friction layers bonded around a pale fibreglass core. The Carbontex sheet we supply is black through the thickness, with no fibreglass core.

This is an important quality distinction when choosing material for replacement fishing reel drag washers. We supply the through-thickness Carbontex construction shown in the comparison below, so the washer you cut is Carbontex throughout rather than a carbon-faced fibreglass sandwich.

Our Carbontex is shown at the bottom: black through the thickness with no pale fibreglass core. The upper sample shows a fibreglass-core sandwich construction.

Cut to Fit

Use your original friction washer as a template so you can reproduce the required inside and outside diameters.

One Sheet, Multiple Washers

The 100 × 195 mm sheet provides enough material for multiple drag washers and, depending on reel size, can be enough to upgrade several reels.

Useful for Many Reel Types

Because the material is supplied uncut, suitability is determined by the dimensions and thickness of the drag washers in your reel rather than a model-specific shape.

Which Carbontex Thickness Do I Need?

Match the washer you are replacing rather than choosing thickness from the reel type alone. Drag stacks vary between brands, models and generations, so rules such as “spinning reels use 1 mm” are not reliable enough for every reel.

Remove one of the original friction washers and measure its thickness as accurately as possible, preferably with callipers. The replacement drag stack should sit at the correct overall height and go back together without having to force the retaining clip or other components into place.

If you are unsure, check the reel's service information or contact us with the exact reel model before ordering.

These are our own workshop photos from cutting and fitting Carbontex drag washers. They show why sheet material is so useful: the existing washer provides the pattern, and the replacement can be cut to suit the drag stack already in the reel.

Why Buy Carbontex as a Sheet?

Pre-cut drag washer sets are convenient when the exact set is available for your reel. Sheet stock has a different advantage: you are not limited to the reel models somebody else has chosen to manufacture washers for.

  • Cut replacements for older or less common reels.
  • Make washers for several different reels from the same sheet when the thickness is suitable.
  • Use the existing washer as the shape and size reference.
  • Keep spare material on hand for future reel servicing.

It does require some DIY work. You will need to dismantle the drag correctly, measure the existing washers, cut clean replacement pieces and reassemble the stack in the original order. If you have not worked on a reel before, read the installation guide before deciding whether sheet stock is right for you.

Carbontex Drag Washer FAQs

Is this a set of pre-cut drag washers?

No. You receive one uncut 100 × 195 mm sheet in the thickness selected. You cut the individual drag washers yourself to match the originals from your reel.

Is this fibreglass-core sandwich material?

No. The Carbontex sheet we supply is black through the thickness and does not have the pale fibreglass core found in some sandwich-style drag sheet. See the comparison photo above for the visible difference between the two constructions.

How many reels can I upgrade from one sheet?

It depends on the diameter and number of washers in each reel and how efficiently you lay out the cuts. Smaller drag washers use much less material than large overhead-reel washers. In our experience, a sheet can service several reels, with up to around seven possible for some smaller reel drag stacks.

Should I choose 0.5 mm or 1.0 mm?

Measure the friction washer you are replacing and choose the thickness that matches the original drag stack. Do not rely on reel type alone, because washer thickness varies between models.

Do Carbontex drag washers need grease?

Carbontex drag washers can be used dry or with a very light coating of suitable fishing reel drag grease. If you grease them, use a product intended for reel drag systems and apply it sparingly; more grease is not better.

Will the sheet fit my Shimano, Daiwa, Penn or other reel?

The sheet itself is not model-specific. It can be used to cut replacement friction washers where the selected sheet thickness and available material suit the dimensions of the reel's original drag washers. Always confirm the required thickness and drag-stack arrangement for your exact reel model before cutting.

How difficult is Carbontex sheet to cut?

For many reel washers it can be cut with basic workshop tools using the original washer as a template. Work carefully, keep holes and edges clean, and avoid breathing carbon-fibre dust when drilling, cutting or sanding. Our step-by-step guide shows the process we use.

Is worldwide delivery included?

Yes, free delivery is available worldwide. For orders outside Australia, the free Economy option is untracked. Select Standard delivery at checkout if you require tracking.
