Super pleased to be invited out for a day’s marlin fishing aboard Black Rat on Saturday. Love that boat, here's a pic:
Straight out to 80 fathoms, and found some good signs on the sounder - high, and low. We ran out four lures and two teasers:
Double strike at 8:20 AM - which is a great way to start any day. Short video:
Not only did we have two marlin hooked up but a third fish was swimming off the stern, trying to figure out what the excitement was all about. Isaac had a mighty battle on 15 kilo line:
At one point, soon after this pic was taken, he was down to 50 metres of line on the reel:
Unfortunately the other marlin broke Sascha’s line, through a drag mishap. We tagged Isaac’s one, a striped:
Spotted a private FAD out there. Good to know about, now that the mahi are on their way south:
Things then went quiet for a few hours, as they so often do when marlin trolling. But the weather stayed great. That's our big teaser splashing like crazy, behind my right shoulder:
Then a screaming drag let us know we were onto marlin number 3. Sascha on the rod and he did a great job:
Clean tag and release:
What a great day on the water. Used to love fishing for marlin and after this top session I'm wondering why I ever stopped. Happy new year to all our readers and hoping you can get on the water over the holidays
