We broke out our 602 (six feet, two piece) combos and got stuck in:
The usual range of light pelagics although, surprisingly, some gigantic yellowtail/cowanyoung in the mix. I haven’t seen that before:
Very proud of our 602 combo. The rod is a shameless copy of the brilliant ABU Hellbender. That was the greatest 3 kilo trout / bream / flathead stick - off the rack - that I've ever owned:
The reel is a 3000 with carbontex drags, 9 + 1 ball bearings, a full sized handle (important!) and your choice of 3 or 6 kilo colour change braid. The 10 bearings make winding smooth as silk and the carbontex drags make fighting smooth as silk. More here:
As has been happening right through winter this year, the wind kept blowing harder and harder. So we decided to give ourselves an early mark around 10.00AM. On the way back, spotted this gigantic crane on a barge, making slow progress up Middle Harbour:
